Safe USA Masks

Facing an inevitable gubernatorial shutdown during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Monterey Mills, a textile manufacturing facility, was deemed a non-essential business and needed to come up with a Hail Mary. A protective face mask was quickly developed and we were assigned the tasks of finding production facilities, raw materials and a go-to-market strategy to aid in the PPE shortages.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • Commit to manufacturing 3 million masks in 90 days

  • Execute e-commerce website that could handle global online orders

  • Identify sales and collateral materials necessary to drive demand

  • Solicit big box retailers with packaging and POS ideas for in-store programs

  • Secure safety mask approval from national certification companies

STRATEGIES IMPLEMENTED

  • Sourced raw materials for polypropylene, cotton and acrylic for masks

  • Contacted automotive upholstery companies in Mexico that could cut & sew facilities that could produce 50,000 masks per day

  • Developed a B2B & B2C e-commerce website that would enable customers to order direct

  • Created product spec sheet, safety data sheets, sell sheet and use & care guides to educate companies on mask features and benefits

  • Curated import and logistics strategy for on-time delivery of all PO’s

  • Created business development plan and hire sales team to handle incoming leads/orders

RESULTS ACHIEVED

  • 100% On-time deliveries of all PO’s

  • New business wins with Amazon and Walmart accounts
